Pima County 4-H Livestock Projects

Beefiness Projection
The Pima Canton iv-H Beef Projection strives to educate four-H members, families, and the community about the Animal Science behind the beefiness cattle industry. 4-Her'due south who take on the beefiness projection tin participate in four different classes:

Dairy Cattle Projection
Raising a dairy animal is a very rewarding feel. Each animal has its own unique personality and they will frequently become very excited to meet their human caregivers. Dairy Goat Project
The Dairy Goat project is a fun and rewarding project. Dairy goats take a swell personality they beloved full-heartedly. You will be raising a dairy goat for multiple purposes one is for the dearest of the animal, other reasons are for convenance and for milk production. Goat Projection
Project Overview
In Pima County, there are a lot of projects offered for members to participate in, just there are two unique projects that are manageable and fun! In the Market Goat and Breeding Boer Doe Projects, we strive to provide members with every resources they need to succeed. We suggest, teach, help, and mold young individuals with their projects and iv-H community itself. By not only being part of the four-H Club only also being in a Project allows youth to grow as a leader and to larn responsibility through the daily care of some other life. This responsibleness molds an individual and provides a youth with life skills to last a lifetime!
In the Goat projects, we offer a few unlike categories.
- Marketplace Goat Project- this plan allows a 4-H fellow member to go out and purchase a market place goat, or goat that was bred for its carcass qualities. Once that caprine animal is raised to market weight from proper nutrition and exercise, 4-Hers tin then bring that beast to the annual Pima County Fair to exhibit the brute in Market place and Showmanship Classes. Market goats are evaluated by a professional guess for their traits in muscle evolution, the correctness of stop, growth, and weight, skeletal definiteness, and balance and eye appeal. Sheep Project
Project Overview

Swine Project
Project Overview
The Pima County 4-H Swine projection is the largest of the big livestock projects with over 200 members canton-wide. Raising a swine as your four-H project is a groovy opportunity as hogs are the smartest animals in the undiscriminating!
Swine Project Opportunities Include:
- Raising Market Swine- Hogs that will be entered into the Pima County Fair and exhibited for both Market place Judging and Showmanship Judging. Eligible hogs are then sold in the Pima County Junior Livestock Sale.
- Raising Carcass Swine- Hogs that are judged on the hoof for Market place, and so taking to a local harvesting facility to be judged on the rail.
- Raising Convenance Gilts- Female person hogs that are raised and exhibited with the intent to produce your own livestock.
If you are new to the project and are looking for a club, please contact the County 4-H Livestock Agent, Josh Moore at jdmoore@email.arizona.edu to aid yous out! As well, the 4-H Office has a list of local swine breeders that have provided swine to four-H'ers in Pima County in past years. Youth for the Quality Intendance of Animals- Quality Assurance Plan
Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) is a form that all 4-H members who plan to exhibit large livestock market place animals are required to take on a yearly basis. The class is one hour in duration and covers three central areas: Nutrient Prophylactic, Animal Well-beingness, and Character Development.
